Senior Software Engineer - Global Expansion (Remote EU)

Our new Global Expansion tribe is building something unique and we’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help us launch and scale new markets (LATAM, APAC, EMEA). Our team is in charge of defining strategy and delivering products and services to those targeted markets.

We leverage all product features built within SumUp and adjust and localise them for new markets using our acquiring and banking partners – from a merchant’s first user experience in our app, to making their first sale, to getting their first payout. The Engineering Expansion squad within the tribe focuses on making the experience seamless, intuitive and hassle-free.

What you’ll do

• Drive the Collaboration with other software developers, QA and DevOps engineers to ensure smooth deployment, continuous integration, and support for the software that we deliver
• Help your team to deliver business value by making decisions, thus actively participating in the product and engineering discussions
• Maintain and extend the core payments system, responsible for the transaction flow for different payment methods
• Participate in API design and implementation for both internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators
• Foster a culture of pair programming and amazingly run monitoring and alerting for our products

You’ll be great for this role if

• You have experience with at least two of the following languages: Elixir, Go, Python, Java and know your way around AWS.
• You know how to set up CI/CD, have worked with logging framework (data dog/splunk) and know how to operate and deploy with Kubernetes (incl. Helm charts) 
• You have a good understanding of software architecture and application design
• You have good English communication skills, both spoken and written
• You have experience with distributed and fault-tolerant systems
• You have a passion for clean, maintainable and testable code
• You value team over individuals and autonomy within your team
