Senior Plant Researcher in plant phenotyping (m/w/d)

About us:

Passionate to eat better, Infarm was founded in Berlin in 2013 by Osnat Michaeli and the brothers Erez and Guy Galonska. With the aim to share the goodness of own-grown produce with everyone, they developed a smart modular farming system, that allows distribution of farms throughout the urban environment, growing fresh produce in any available space and fulfilling any market demand.

Today, with cutting edge R&D, patented technologies, and a leading multi-disciplinary team, Infarm is growing a global farming network helping cities become self-sufficient in their food production while significantly improving the safety, quality, and environmental footprint of our food.

Be part of the Infarm (r)evolution and help people to take back ownership of their food.

Who you are:

  • You're excited about our vision to reshape the food industry.
  • You believe diversity, collaboration and teamwork are key drivers for success.
  • You thrive in an environment where you can take ownership and solve hard problems.
  • You love a challenge and want to do well while doing good.
  • You want to expand your horizons and grow with us as we grow.

Your role in the team:

As a part of our team you will contribute to the developing, validation, and execution of phenotyping protocols that deliver phenotypic data to the team for decision making. Additionally, you will apply phenotyping information to characterize plant responses to environmental changes inside vertical farming systems focused on lowering their energy consumption and carbon footprint, as well as the use of multispectral imaging (MSI) data for automated control systems.

Responsibilities include (not limited to):

  • Define, in collaboration with the crop science team, appropriate experimental designs to generate relevant phenotypic data using MSI and chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements.
  • Execute and lead experimental procedures to correlate and validate values derived from MSI indexes/data with plant responses to environmental changes.
  • Generate, in collaboration with internal and external scientists, high-throughput phenotyping pipelines using digital/automated tools to introduce MSI and other phenotyping platforms as a tool for quality control of production and pest detection in our farms.
  • Create, manage, and curate data for use by other teams.
  • Communicate phenotypic results to stakeholders in written technical reports and oral presentations

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in biological/agricultural sciences.
  • Professional experience on phenotyping practices using multispectral imaging.
  • Experience in sensor and image data processing.
  • Experience in using software for data analysis (e.g., R, Phyton)
  • Experience with SQL programming is a plus
  • Experience in the use of automated phenotyping equipment and software from Phenospex is desirable.
  • Some level of experience with chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements.
  • “Hands-on” approach and proactive attitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to solve problems, consider relevant alternatives before making decisions and  making recommendations
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team

What we offer:

  • You will improve your experience through external collaboration with developers of phenotyping technologies and scientists from research institutes and universities
  • A friendly work environment with a diverse group of motivated, talented, and visionary colleagues
  • The opportunity to be part of a fast-growing startup that has developed its own innovative growing systems
  • The ability to drive impact working closely with top-level managers
  • Corporate Pension Scheme
  • 30 days of vacation plus an extra day off on your birthday
