Head of Business Risk - Chief Operating Office

About the opportunity

N26 is looking for an experienced Senior Business Risk Manager to support the implementation and application of non-financial risk management frameworks across the 1st line of defense (LoD), within the Chief Operating Office (COO). The non-financial risk landscape includes a variety of risk categories, such as information communication and technology (ICT), business continuity and third-party risk, as well as other operational risks. This person will support the process and business owners with regards to the identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting of non-financial risks, as well as ensure the application of the group Internal Control System (ICS) requirements.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and drive the implementation of the “business risk partner” set up in the COO in order to promote a strong risk management culture across the business units of the COO.
  • Ensure the ongoing implementation and alignment with regards to non-financial risk management frameworks, working in close coordination with the various process and business owners.
  • Work on the design of the continuous reporting and monitoring of non-financial risks in close alignment with the 2nd line functions such as Risk Management, Outsourcing Management, Information Security and Compliance
  • Act as the main point of contact for the 1 LoD, for the 2 LoD risk management stakeholders, the COO leadership team, as well as for internal and external audit activities.
  • Coach, train and support the 1 LoD of the COO in the execution of risk management frameworks.

What you need to be successful:

Background:

  • Several years of professional experience in non-financial risk management (with a preference for operational risk, ICT risk, information's security, third party risk, internal controls) in financial services
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or other relevant areas
  • Desired:
    • Professional experience in 1 LoD risk function
    • Professional experience working for or with (e.g. consulting) retail banks, neobanks and fintechs
    • Professional experience in ICT and/ or information security
    • IT certifications such as ISACA or ISC2

Skills:

  • Profound knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., German Banking Act (KWG), MaRisk, BAIT) and common industry standards (e.g., COSO, COBIT/ITIL)
  • Understanding of how to apply non-financial risk frameworks to a wider group including operational risk, information technology and other regulatory regimes and how to implement an internal control system (ICS)
  • Sound understanding and interest of emerging risks, such as blockchain, crypto, AI, Machine Learning
  • Ability to set-up new structures and processes in a fast changing & growing environment
  • Strong analytical skill set
  • Ability to act as a sparring partner for senior stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skill and ability to work cross-functionally across multiple business units
  • Track record in project management and delivery
  • An entrepreneurial vision, an autonomous attitude, and a ‘get things done’ approach
  • Hands-on approach and eagerness to tackle new topics while demonstrating a quick grasp in conceptual project work and strategic thinking
  • Fluent in English and German
