Senior Backend Engineer (Java), Platform Sales

Our Unified Commerce business area brings together multiple SumUp products into one - Online Store, Invoices & Accounting and UC Platform. We aim to unify (no pun intended) the experience of SumUp merchants across multiple products and to encourage our merchants to utilize our full range of products and services according to their needs.

As a Senior Backend Engineer working in this team, you will be working on initiatives aimed at further developing and building our Sales & Order experience - one of the most frequented journeys our merchants go through on a daily basis.

What you’ll do as a Senior Backend Engineer;

• Participate in REST API design and implementation for both internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators.
• Design, develop and deploy backend services with a focus on high availability, low latency and scalability
• Actively provide code review feedback to other software engineers, considering both style and implementation.
• Provide thoughtful and comprehensive documentation and testing for your features before shipping them.
• Mentor other engineers, ensuring you are actively seeking opportunities to help the team improve 
• Help drive and improve the delivery of our platform features together with the product manager and engineers

You’ll be great for this Senior Backend Engineer role if;

• You have 5+ years commercial experience in a similar role
• You have experience in developing software using a JVM language (Java)
• You’re familiar with designing and building distributed and scalable systems and enjoy seeing millions of users running your code
• You have good knowledge of event-driven architecture
• You have experience in cloud-based environments (we use AWS)
• You care about quality and you know what it means to ship high-quality code.
• You are open to learn new technologies and language
