Who you are

We are looking for people who are inspired and committed to solving problems! Do you have an exceptional ability to learn new skills? If so, this could be the right environment for you. You could come with mileage from both a leading law firm and as an in-house counsel. What’s important is that you have a desire to learn more, move beyond your comfort zone and push boundaries.

We are actively looking for people for our offices in Amsterdam and Brussels/Paris. To be a good fit as a Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel, you’ve probably found yourself thinking three steps ahead when negotiating contracts, and reading thoughts of people sitting across the table is in your DNA. You just love closing deals and working closely with sales! You’re eager to find solutions to challenges whenever they are thrown your way. You have likely thought long and hard about what makes people trust you and your judgement, and spent an unreasonable amount of time thinking about how to simplify legal concepts and communicate them plainly.

You see problems as opportunities and take the initiative to make changes and improvements. You are passionate about your job and enjoy a fast paced international working environment. You will play an important role in taking Klarna to the next level - thus, you should desire to go above and beyond to deliver and grow as an individual. Our working language is in English but for this role, you’re also expected to be able to draft and negotiate contracts in French. Good working proficiency in Dutch is a plus.

At Klarna we embrace change, you should dare to challenge the status quo and be persistent.

What you will do

  • As a dedicated lawyer for the commercial teams in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, you will design legal solutions to matters arising from the teams' day-to-day work. Your main task is to be the best problem solver in the world and drive legal innovation forward! The role can be based in either Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris. You will merge stakeholders' expectations and legal requirements into a simple and innovative product, process or contract. Teamwork and a business mindset will be part of your daily routine. In essence, your job will be to:

  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts.
  • Drive impact assessments of legislative changes.
  • Provide the commercial teams with contract training and other relevant legal training.
  • Participate in designing model commercial contracts and templates used by the organization.

You Should Have

  • Previous professional experience as a lawyer, preferably from a leading law firm, the financial sector, telecom or the IT industry.
  • A natural business and problem-solving mindset.
  • Solid interest in the disruptive payment and online shopping industry, and a strong drive to learn rather than focus in a specific area of law.
  • Fluency in French and working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English are requirements. Good working knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.
  • Excellent people skills and you are a true star when it comes to stakeholder management.
  • Passion for problem solving and driving change by using innovative solutions.
  • The capability of prioritizing conflicting demands and handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
