iOS Engineer, Hardware

You have probably used our card readers to buy a cappuccino or pay your hairdresser already, but did you know these devices make up more than 95% of SumUp’s business?

In Hardware, we are passionate about creating these beautifully designed card payment devices and accessories that enable our merchants to start, run, and grow their own businesses. In doing so, we deal with a diverse range of engineering topics - industrial and electronic design, embedded systems, all the way to mobile apps and backend services.

As a Senior iOS Engineer, your role will involve developing our mobile apps and integrating our hardware products and connected services. You’ll drive the implementation of features alongside a small, highly skilled team of cross-functional engineers.

What you’ll do

• Build the future of integration with SumUp card readers and optimise their interactions with the iOS mobile app and SDK
• Work at scale – our card readers are used by millions of merchants across the world processing 200,000 transactions per day
• Work closely with product and design peers to build features that are maintainable, usable, and beautiful
• Solve challenging engineering problems in Core Bluetooth, security and binary protocols
• Modernise and modularise our iOS app
• Represent the Hardware Tribe in the company-wide mobile chapter to collaborate on architectural decisions, release processes, etc.
• Take an active role in mentoring your peers on engineering principles, design and implementation

You'll be great for this position if

• You have extensive programming experience in Objective-C and Swift.
• You care about user interaction, usability and of course, making the interface beautiful.
• You know what to test, why to test it, and how to write flexible tests that won't break.
• You enjoy working with multinational cross-functional teams.
• You are proactive and able to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
