Creative Director Art

Our global team of 75+ designers have deep expertise in User Experience Research, Product Design, Brand and Marketing Design. We are building additional capabilities in areas including industrial design, motion design, data visualization, UX writing and design operations.

What you're going to do

As Lead Art Director, you will be our lead visual brand storyteller across all our marketing channels. Working closely with the Creative Director, our Head of Brand Europe and Channel Experts (CRM, Online Marketing, Social Media, Retail), you will develop creative ideas for offline and online brand campaigns ranging from 360 to single platform campaigns to achieve best in industry representation to our merchants in Europe. In collaboration with the CD of the inhouse agency and your own design team, you will oversee photo or TV shoots and post-production to ensure creative consistency and quality. 

You will translate SumUp’s mission to future and existing business owners as you know how to inspire them with outstanding creation. You put yourself into their shoes everyday and find creative ways to help business-owners understand and on-board to our payment solutions, while they can concentrate fully on their business. 

You will partner closely with other design leads of local and global brand teams, product marketing, product design, global design platform and user research on the development of target audience definition, journey definition, positioning, tracking and annual marketing plan for all levels of merchant facing activation. 

You will oversee brand design across different teams as the in-house agency, retail and employer branding. You will define requirements on needed competence and make selection of talent, developing and managing the creative team (internal and external). Additionally, you will lead the personal development of integrated design team members that report directly and indirectly to you to ensure the advancement of creative excellence. You will take the SumUp Brand designers in different parts of the organization to the next level with your art direction and create a consistent look that fits the SumUp brand. And you will coordinate with and influence the evolution of the SumUp brand overall, aligned with the Brand and Experience strategy.

You will be the first contact person and creative lead when we work with creative agencies and other partners. You will help drive the evolution of our processes and guidelines to educate fellow designers on how to best approach problems.

 

Requirements

  • A minimum of 12+ years of professional experience as a Brand/Marketing Designer, a minimum of 4+ years successfully art directing teams at an agency and 4+ years leading teams
  • You have extensive expertise and experience in TVC and photo productions on an international level with external parties and service providers
  • You ideate effectively during brainstorming sessions, creative reviews, and project kick-off meetings
  • You know how to set-up creative work flows to support the in-house agency and channel needs
  • You bring a deep understanding of strategy, our market, clients and the latest digital payment methods.
  • You are hands-on and have a can-do mentality that allows you to do magic on tight budgets.
  • Understand the art and craft of people management and have a proven track record of shaping a successful team
  • Your excellent communication and presentation skills will help you ensure close collaboration within the team and the whole design chapter 
  • You are a natural leader and collaborator, understanding brand as an embodied framework that includes the product and end-to-end merchant journey
  • You speak excellent English. Any other language is a bonus.
  • BA or MA in Design or related fields, or complementary studies with deep work experience in brand/communication design
