Director, Paid Media Strategy

About the opportunity

Contentful is looking for a B2B paid media expert to join its high-performing Demand Generation team. This role will be responsible within Contentful for managing all paid media efforts across Demand Gen functions including Global Campaigns, Growth, Partner Marketing and Field Marketing. This person will align internal functions with our paid media strategy, provide business-side strategic guidance on media mix, and guide external agency support on strategy, day-to-day execution and optimization of paid programs. This person will also deliver detailed reports and insights on channel performance and media mix to our Finance team and participate in financial planning exercises.

Contentful’s paid media programs help drive our inbound sales and product-led growth models. Our inbound sales motion thrives on an account- and persona-based approach to targeted marketing, supported by rich content resources and a sophisticated martech stack, deploying across a strategic mix of campaign channels. Paid media tactics are also essential to driving net new product sign-ups, engagement and upgrades. In both cases, we have one foot always in experimentation mode to find the most efficient and effective ways of delivering business results through paid media. We are looking to accelerate our paid media investments in the coming months and years to hit our pipeline and product-led growth targets.

What to expect?

  • Trusted advisor to all marketing functions that deploy paid media tactics for qualified lead generation and product sign-ups from priority accounts. 
  • Build a comprehensive, full-funnel paid media strategy aligned with each internal team’s objectives to drive qualified leads and strategic product sign-ups, and ultimately deliver on our pipeline and revenue targets. 
  • Coordinate with internal marketing execution functions to deliver on paid media tactics, including creative assets and content strategy. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Contentful and our digital marketing agency of record. 
  • Coordinate experimentation and A/B tests to enable continuous optimization of paid programs.
  • Collaborate with Content Marketing, Web Team, SEO agency and others to align paid and organic customer acquisition strategies and maximize impact on the organic marketing ecosystem. 
  • Point person for forecasting and planning sessions with Financial Planning and Analysis to align with the company’s overall financial plans as we continue to scale our investments in hyper-growth mode. 
  • Manage budget and channel allocation strategy, aligned with each function’s objectives and KPIs.
  • Maintain monthly and quarterly reports to track progress towards goal attainment and investment pacing. 

What you need to be successful?

  • Extensive knowledge of B2B paid media channels and targeting strategies including but not limited to search, programmatic display, social, native, video platforms, content syndication and direct-to-publisher.
  • Deep working understanding of marketing measurement tactics and analytics, with proven dedication to maintaining meticulous multi-touch attribution on a complex mix of paid media programs, with the objective of continuous optimization.
  • Experience working in a company with product-led growth models and objectives.
  • Expert collaborator with established teamwork skills, ready to partner with various go-to-market functions and operate as the internal authority on paid media strategy. 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced B2B SaaS environment with a proven ability to problem solve and adapt to changes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 
  • Leadership skills and people management experience desired; this role will eventually look to build up a team of in-house channel specialists. 
  • Bonus: Working knowledge of Contentful’s product category, market positioning, competitive landscape and buyer personas.

Colorado Salary Statement: The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for the role. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data/ranges, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications (e.g. JD/technology), for example.

Colorado Salary Range: $159,000 - $170,000
[This position is eligible for equity awards, annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards in accordance with the terms of Contentful’s variable compensation plans.]
