Who we are...
We are a multi-national team of DataBase Reliability Engineers based in Berlin. Most of us have a database administration background with a longtime experience of managing relational databases. We believe that the role of the database administrator needs to change. We believe that instead of running databases for others we can contribute much more to our company’s ambitious goals by enabling Klarna’s product teams to run their own databases in the most efficient, secure and compliant way. We simply provide the tools they need to do just that. We don’t do the on-call for someone else’s databases any longer. We rather engineer the reliability of databases.
What you will get to do...
Klarna’s data is to a very large degree stored in hundreds of RDS instances and clusters on AWS. These databases have to meet the high requirements of a company from the online payment and banking sector with respect to performance, availability, security and compliance. Many hours have been and will be invested by our product and development teams into the setup and maintenance of these databases. Hours, the teams cannot invest into the development of the core features of the products and services they are responsible for - You are going to help change that for them.
You are going to implement core tools that abstract the management of databases by automating its deployment, monitoring, and maintenance in the cloud in a way that their setup fulfills compliance rules and best practices. Tools that should provide the capability to integrate into their own deployment pipeline.
Additionally, you will improve the accessibility of database metrics and their interpretation by providing visualization tools, empowering root-cause analysis and predictions.
You will also, through knowledge transfer, mentor teams with their decisions of which database technology to use, and how to better use it, by improving their understanding of database modeling, tuning, and maintenance.
