Senior Fullstack Software Engineer - VAS team

sennder is a European digital freight forwarder looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer with a backend focus to join our new Value Added Services business area. The role is based out of the Berlin office (flexible hybrid home/office combo covid permitting).

The Value-Added Services (VAS) Team has the bold mission to increase the competitiveness and profitability of carriers and shippers by offering a one-stop-shop of value-adding services (e.g. financing, banking, insurance, fuel cards) at the best possible conditions and with the most seamless user experience. In Europe alone this services business for the road freight industry comprises a EUR +250b opportunity, and sennder strives to be the most compelling services provider adding another profitable revenue stream to sennder’s core business.

As a Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to create huge business impact by building new services that delight carriers and shippers across Europe. This work is very greenfield, working alongside a Lead Engineer, you will have the opportunity to grow something from scratch and lay the foundations to scale from 1 team to 5+ teams. You’ll contribute to the architectural vision and technical direction across the whole of VAS, building out roadmaps to increase team velocity and output whilst coaching, teaching and growing our engineers.

In this role you will

  • Work with a Lead Engineer and help scale up our VAS business area, we have a lot of ideas and we are looking for people to evolve our backend, DevOps, and engineering practices to support the growth and work with many autonomous teams. We welcome new ideas and feedback.
  • Prototype and develop new major and minor features. We often need strong engineering expertise and sharp original thinking to make the right choices.
  • We need your support in growing a solid microservice architecture, we are in the process of introducing service mesh, stable interfaces, and contracts for API, metrics, etc.
  • You’ll be part of building micro-frontends, deployment improvements as well as mentoring and growing other engineers.
  • We will regularly ask you to evaluate and adopt new languages, technologies, patterns, and practices.

 

Preferably you are

  • Solid knowledge and proven expertise in building backends, frontends, web services, and distributed systems - you see yourself as a backend-focused fullstack engineer.
  • Proven with technical leadership qualities, engineers respect you and are willing to listen.
  • Experience with payment systems or fintech based projects.
  • Worked with more than one language, preferably you are familiar with Typescript and Python.
  • Proven practical experience with different architectures, patterns, and programming paradigms.
  • Practical skills with AWS, Docker, and modern CI/CD.
  • Good communication skills in English.
