Lead Engineer Thermal Powertrain (m/f/x)

About us

Vision, motivation and professionalism. Creativity and trust. Love for our planet. All this unites our currently almost 100 colleagues. We will be the world's first mobility provider to introduce an electric car with solar integration in series production to the market: the Sion. For the environment. For our children. And because it's really high time!

Your Tasks

The development of our first production vehicle - the Sion - is entering the hot phase. Now that the concept development is largely complete, the focus is shifting more and more to the details. In thermal management, this means that now that the components and suppliers have been selected, we have to fine-tune the geometries and software for the HVAC area, among other things. That's why we need you. As Project Engineer Cabin Comfort, you will be largely responsible for managing all HVAC issues with our development partners. The role requires strong fundamentals, as well as improvisational skills to drive the development project forward despite a straightforward process landscape. It is especially important that you are open and honest, and work at eye level with external partners. Ideally, you are also familiar with alternative air conditioning concepts and are motivated to bring these technologies into the project from an initial feasibility study to series integration. Does this sound like a challenge you feel up to? Your tasks in detail:

  • Responsibility for the development of the powertrain cooling system and the battery heating system in close cooperation with the development team, purchasing, production planning and marketing
  • Responsibility over the requirements, functionality and integration of the above mentioned systems and related components, as well as the software
  • Responsibility over compliance with development goals: Specifications, cost, weight, timing and homologation of the hardware and software of the powertrain related thermal system
  • Main contact person for relevant suppliers and service providers regarding the above mentioned systems and related components
  • Technical and disciplinary lead of the PT Thermo team at Sono Motors
  • Management of several SE teams consisting of engineering service providers, suppliers, internal interfaces and manufacturing engineering
  • Particularly close cooperation and constant coordination with the HVAC team
  • Collaboration on simulation, component design, FMEA, functional safety and testing
  • Responsibility for patent developments in the field of thermal systems
  • Initiation and/or management and/or execution of projects in other areas of the company, if necessary, desired and feasible, according to the organization of Sono Motors

Our Requirements

  • Technical degree, such as mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or industrial engineering
  • At least five years of professional experience in the field of Themal Management Powertrain and know all the necessary development steps from the concept phase to series production
  • Experience in project management and working in an open exchange and on an equal footing with engineering service providers and suppliers
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. German is a plus
  • Openness and honesty are your top priorities
  • You take responsibility independently and contribute your knowledge proactively, but at the same time respect the competence of everyone involved in the project
  • Thanks to your flexibility and spontaneity, you are able to drive the project forward even without predefined processes
  • You are curious, like to enter new technical territory and easily work your way into new topics independently
  • You know which side of the screwdriver is in front and you are not afraid of working on a prototype yourself
  • Sustainability is close to your heart, you like to swim in the open sea and stand by your successes and mistakes

What to expect

  • A visionary team in a fast-growing, young company
  • No deadlocked processes and hierarchies, but a lot of courage to shape a mobility provider in the making
  • The opportunity to shape your own role in the company and to take on challenges outside of your official position description
  • As part of the development team at Sono Motors, you will take full responsibility over your projects from day one. At the same time, you will be fully trusted to live up to this responsibility.
  • Our proSono platform offers you the chance to pitch and realize your own projects - your ideas are wanted, not feared
  • A culture of appreciation at eye level, where we celebrate successes as well as mistakes
  • A friendly and open interaction with internal and external colleagues. We all pull together and don't pass the buck to each other.
  • Flexible working hours and home office
  • An open, modern office with little paper, but the use of Trello, Slack & Co.
